Cathedral Update

Chester Cathedral continues their journey of increased visibility and improvement in the city. The journey started in 2022 with the glass doors of the Pilgrim Porch allowing visitors to peek inside the Cathedral and continues with acquisition of 30 St Werburgh St (formerly Barclays Bank).

Visitors passing by may have noticed new signage on St Werburgh St and Northgate St identifying the building as part of Chester Cathedral, bringing the Cathedral’s presence into the heart of the city. Along with increased visibility, Chester Cathedral understands how essential it is to maintain and restore the heritage of historic buildings, such as 30 St Werburgh St. When Barclays vacated the premises, they removed the ATMs from the external wall on Northgate Street which were then replaced with a temporary infill which have now been replaced, with all work done by the Cathedral Works Team. The signage and the works on the exterior of the building were made possible thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The next steps for the building include community and commercial hire of spaces. Find out more Ongoing journey towards visibility in the city - Chester Cathedral
