Progress

Family sat on Chester Walls under t Clock

The story so far...

Since the first One City Plan was published in 2012, we have worked collectively with the public and the private sector and made great progress.

The timeline below sets out some of the principal joint achievements across the city. As you can see, they cover a huge range of projects both large and small which have shaped the city’s fabric, totalling an investment of almost £1 billion.

We have worked with a wide range of dedicated partners to deliver some fantastic award-winning assets for the city that are now firmly established that have helped transform the city centre. It’s hard now to imagine Chester without Storyhouse or the new Market for example, but without the One City Plan they may never have come to fruition.

We can all take great pride in these achievements, but the One City Plan is also about many smaller marginal gains projects too – such as the Town Hall Parklet, Pierpoint Lane bin store, reopening Chester Castle, hosting regular visiting markets and investment in Park & Ride facilities - incremental changes that carry our city one step forward.

You won't always see them, not unless you look hard enough, but they are happening all of the time and as long as there are people in our city who remain committed to a shared vision, working hard together with purpose, then we feel assured that Chester will just keep getting better and better.

Browse the projects below to discover how the One City Plan has evolved from 2012 up to the present day.
