Lache Backies Transformation
An 8 hectare (19 acre) former brickworks and landfill site has been regenerated in Lache with funding from FCC Communities Foundation and Heritage Lottery Funding via Chester Zoo’s Network for Nature programme. The works included removal of over 55 tonnes of fly-tipping to create a fantastic new open space for residents to enjoy and nature to thrive. The site is already open to the public. Nuns Road paving scheme completed
The scheme, which began in January 2026, focused on repairing the existing footway alongside the City Walls. Over recent years, several sections had become uneven or lifted by tree roots, creating a number of potential trip hazards. Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Highways Service has carefully lifted and re-laid the original paving, reusing as much material as possible to preserve the site’s historic character. Lache, Backies work underway
Work has started at the Backies in Lache. As part of the Lache Action Plan, the former landfill site is being transformed into a green space area for wildlife and residents to enjoy. The first task was the clearing of a considerable amount of fly-tipped waste. Any future incidents of fly-tipping will be managed through a collaboration between the Council and Sanctuary Housing enforcement teams.
