Chester Movement Strategy – taking shape

  • 1 min read

Work is underway on a Chester Movement Strategy, being developed by Cheshire West and Chester Council with support from consultants Steer.

The Strategy will set out a long-term plan for how people travel into and around the city up to 2045. An evidence base has been developed highlighting growing pressures on the transport network and the need to better connect people, places and opportunities across the city. As work progresses, the Strategy will build on established priorities from the One City Plan and Local Transport Plan, including improving safety, strengthening walking, cycling and public transport networks, and better connecting neighbourhoods with the city centre and key destinations—supporting a more sustainable and accessible future for Chester.

Stakeholder engagement is ongoing and has been well received, with further opportunities to get involved as the work develops. The Strategy is expected to be published later in 2026 – watch this space for updates.
