Destination Chester is working on a new tourism plan that recognises the significance of visitors. Its starting point is that tourism is more important than ever to Chester’s prosperity. Although visitor numbers to the city’s attractions and hotels are almost back to pre-Covid levels, changes in shopping and working habits contributed to a 25% reduction in city centre footfall 2018-2023. Chester needs more leisure and business visitors if it is to thrive and attract new commercial investment. This means it must offer an improved experience and be better marketed.
